The IoT and the Manufacturing Industry

How do I Interconnect a Factory?

The Internet of Things (IoT), a reality that has taken shape in many sectors, including the manufacturing industry.

When it comes to talking about total interconnection in an industrial key, it is important to outline the industrial characteristics and opportunities that arise.

The Internet of Things, or even “IoT”, emphasizes interconnected objects that constantly exchange information.

This exchange of information creates added value, allowing the creation of continuous innovations in the industrial field.

Today inside the factory, thanks to the latest generation software, such as MES OPERA, being able to connect machines, devices, assembly lines in the same production site has become possible and above all very simple.

Factory objects, as well as machines and people equipped with electronic devices, become interconnected, not only within a plant, but also integrated with multiple production sites, eliminating the problem of size of a company, making the operation of both a corporation or an SME more efficient.

The total interconnection, made possible thanks to the right IT tools, enables a new level of industry, with data-driven plants, or data-driven experience, accompanied by artificial intelligence.

The digital factory is therefore able to develop, thanks to the “intelligent” MES, predictive models and new algorithms, to continuously improve company performance, in a “Kaizen” key.

The idea of interconnection, with the MES at the centre of the factory, understood as the new protagonist of the “Digital Transformation” represents for the smart factory, the possibility of grouping under a single control all the machines that are in production, being the ideal platform for production, built ad hoc.

Thanks to touchscreen monitors, operators can intuitively see the status of the machine, what is happening in the production system, how it is working, in order to understand if there are actions to be taken, based on predictive signals offered by a MES equipped with AI as a MES WORK.

Thanks to the important information of the MES software, the shift operator can take timely measures, going to take corrective actions, suggested by the manufacturing execution system itself, and find the ideal solutions to improve the entire production performance.

All this, compared to the past, in a more intuitive, fast and paperless way!
